Climate activist Greta Thunberg was reportedly ‘tortured’ by Israeli forces after a flotilla she was part of, en route to Gaza, was intercepted. The flotilla, carrying 137 activists aiming to deliver aid to Gaza, was detained by Israeli authorities, with the deportees arriving in Turkey on Saturday.
Two activists, Hazwani Helmi from Malaysia and Windfield Beaver from the United States, alleged that Thunberg had been mistreated during detention. She was reportedly shoved and forced to wear an Israeli flag. Helmi recounted, “It was a disaster. They treated us like animals,” while Beaver noted that Thunberg was “treated terribly” and “used as propaganda.”
Turkish journalist Ersin Celik corroborated these claims, asserting that Thunberg was "dragged on the ground" and "forced to kiss the Israeli flag." Italian journalist Lorenzo Agostino also reported that Thunberg was "humiliated and wrapped in an Israeli flag."
Turkish TV presenter Ikbal Gurpinar added to the accusations, describing conditions during detention as dire, with detainees left without food or water for three days.
