Doha: Ambassadors
of various missions in Qatar have lauded the country's mediation efforts
leading towards the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United
States and Iran, expressing high value for Qatar's role in charting a course of
peace for the region.
Canada's
Ambassador Karim Morcos said Ottawa welcomes the agreement as an important
diplomatic breakthrough, adding: "Qatar has once again demonstrated its
value as a reliable mediator, helping to open a path toward de-escalation,
regional stability, and economic reassurance." Australia's Ambassador
Shane Flanagan said Prime Minister Albanese specifically commended Qatar
alongside Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and other mediating countries,
noting that the agreement includes steps towards reopening the Strait of Hormuz
and restoring freedom of navigation.
France's
Ambassador Arnaud Pescheux paid tribute to Qatari authorities for their
"constructive and determined mediation efforts," adding that the
agreement should pave the way for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and
create an opportunity to pursue negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear
programme. Germany's Ambassador Oliver Owcza welcomed the agreement as a
significant opportunity for the region, particularly commending Qatar for its
constructive mediation efforts and commitment to dialogue.
Peru's Ambassador Gonzalo Voto Bernales Gatica said Peru welcomes the announcement and acknowledges Qatar's crucial role in the mediation effort. "Qatar has demonstrated once more its perseverance in its quest for peace and stability in the region," he said. "May this accomplishment remind us all of the enormous burden that any conflict inflicts on our lives and how it is outweighed by the force of peace."
