Doha: QatarEnergy LNG sponsored and presented the Best Overall Prizes to winning teams at the 22nd Annual Chemical Engineering Plant Design Competition, organised by the Department of Chemical Engineering at Qatar University. Since its inception in 2004, the contest has aimed to provide students with world-class engineering experience, nurturing the next generation of engineering talent.

Rashid Al-Kuwari, Chief Engineering & Projects Officer at QatarEnergy LNG, delivered an opening address at a ceremony held at the company's Doha headquarters on May 24, 2026. He noted that supporting education is a cornerstone of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility program and aligns with the human, social, and economic development pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030. Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Marri, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Qatar University, also addressed the event and expressed appreciation to QatarEnergy LNG for its continuous support over 22 years.

Ten teams presented projects to a panel of judges from industry, working over two semesters on simulation-based plant designs for LNG, Ethylene, and Dimethyl Ether production. The judging panel included engineering experts from Qatar Shell GTL, QatarEnergy LNG, QAFCO, QChem, and OryxGTL. First place was awarded to Shahd Murtada, Mona Foroohar, Shimaa Asem, and Rawan Tayseer Abunada for their ethylene plant design (ETHYQ) featuring waste-heat recovery and 90% CO₂ capture efficiency. Second place went to Mohammad Jaber Alathba, Mohamed Ashraf, Mohamed Dahri, and Khalid Hamad Al-Jabri for their Dimethyl Ether plant design. Third place was awarded to Amira Al-Kebsi, Fatima Abdulla Al-Samra, Noora Khalili, and Elham Dabwan for their QEGCO Ethylene Production project.
