Doha: The
Qatar Civil Aviation Authority has announced updated regulations governing the
carriage of power banks containing lithium batteries during air travel, aligned
with the latest guidelines from the International Civil Aviation Organization
and the International Air Transport Association.
Under
the updated regulations, passengers are permitted to carry a maximum of two
power banks, each with a capacity not exceeding 100 watt-hours. Power banks
must be carried in cabin baggage only and are strictly prohibited in checked
luggage. In-flight charging is also not permitted. Passengers must ensure
charging terminals are adequately protected to prevent damage or short
circuits, and power banks must remain easily accessible - not stored in
overhead compartments or side lockers - to allow cabin crew to respond quickly
in case of an incident.
Travellers are advised to check and comply with any additional restrictions imposed by their airlines before departure. The authority warned that failure to comply with dangerous goods regulations or cabin crew instructions may result in legal action.
