Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend support to Karnataka in order to strengthen India's overall development. This appeal was made during an event at the Ramakrishna Ashrama, following the inauguration of the 'Viveka Smaraka' in Mysuru on Saturday.
In his address, Shivakumar expressed pride in the Prime Minister's presence in Mysuru, quoting Swami Vivekananda: "Be bold-hearted when you are defeated. Be large-hearted when you are victorious." He urged the Prime Minister to adopt a generous approach in assisting Karnataka, emphasizing that the world views India through the lens of Karnataka and Bengaluru.
Recalling historical context, he mentioned how former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee laid the foundation stone for Bengaluru International Airport during the tenure of then Chief Minister S. M. Krishna. Vajpayee remarked on how world leaders previously visited other cities before arriving in Bengaluru, but now prioritize Bengaluru as their first stop before heading to Delhi. "This reflects the strength of our state, with its favorable climate and rich culture," he stated.
Shivakumar expressed a desire for collaboration with the Union Government, advocating for a federal approach to enhance the nation's pride. "Karnataka stands with you. India must grow with Karnataka. Together, let us build a prosperous Karnataka and a strong India," he affirmed.
Additionally, he highlighted the contributions of the Wadiyar Maharajas, who provided 300 acres of land to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru, stating, "This is a testament to their commitment to advancing science in our nation."
