Kochi: Renowned Malayalam actor Salim Kumar passed away on Saturday night
following health complications. He was 56. According to hospital officials, he
was admitted with fever and breathing difficulties before suffering a cardiac
arrest later in the evening.
Born
in North Paravur, Salim Kumar began his artistic journey as a mimicry performer
before making a successful transition to cinema. Over a career spanning
decades, he acted in more than 300 films and became one of Malayalam cinema’s
most versatile performers, excelling in both comedy and character roles.
He
rose to prominence with memorable performances in films such as Pulival Kalyanam, C.I.D. Moosa, Thenkashipattanam, Thilakkam, Kilichundan Mampazham
and Pattalam.
His impeccable comic timing and unique screen presence made him one of the most
loved actors in Malayalam cinema.
Salim
Kumar also proved his brilliance in serious and emotionally powerful roles. His
performance in Adaminte
Makan Abu earned him both the National Film Award and Kerala State Film
Award for Best Actor, making him one of the rare performers to achieve equal
success in comedy and dramatic cinema. He was also recognized as a writer and
director during his distinguished career.
He is
survived by his wife Sunitha and sons Chandu and Aaromal. His body will be kept
at Paravur Town Hall on Sunday morning to allow the public to pay their last
respects before being taken to his residence. The funeral will be held on
Sunday evening, bringing the curtain down on the remarkable journey of one of
Malayalam cinema’s finest talents.
