Meta-owned
WhatsApp has begun testing a new optional subscription package, WhatsApp Plus,
appearing in the latest Android beta version (2.26.15.11). Unlike previous
updates focused on utility, this package centers on personalization and
interface customization.
According
to WABetaInfo, the subscription allows users to change theme colours, select
custom app icons for their home screen, and access exclusive ringtones and
sticker packs. It also offers organizational upgrades, such as increasing the
number of pinned conversations for quicker access.
A Meta spokesperson confirmed the pilot, stating that WhatsApp Plus is designed for those seeking a more tailored experience. The plan includes custom conversation themes and expanded list management. Currently available to a limited group of beta testers for feedback, the feature is expected to roll out to more accounts in the coming weeks. Meta emphasized that the subscription is entirely optional and will not impact the core free features used by millions worldwide.
