Two Indian-flagged tankers fired upon near Strait of Hormuz

Two oil tankers attempting to navigate the Strait of Hormuz were reportedly fired upon by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Saturday. According to maritime sources cited by Reuters, IRGC naval units intercepted the vessels and utilized gunfire to force them to retreat.

The monitoring site TankerTrackers confirmed that the incident involved two Indian-flagged vessels, which were blocked outside the strategic chokepoint and compelled to turn back. The escalation follows signals from the IRGC that it has officially reclosed the Strait of Hormuz, citing "excessive demands" from the United States during ongoing negotiations.

The confrontation has sparked renewed concerns over global energy security and maritime safety, occurring just one day after the waterway had been briefly reopened to commercial traffic. No injuries have been reported, but the incident marks a sharp reversal in efforts to de-escalate regional tensions.
