Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior (MOI) has urged residents to follow essential safety measures to prevent cooking oil fires in their homes. In a public advisory shared on its official social media platforms, the ministry highlighted the risks associated with overheating oil and stressed the importance of awareness in ensuring household safety.
The
MOI explained that cooking oil can ignite when exposed to excessive heat, as it
releases flammable vapours that may catch fire quickly. In case of a fire,
residents are advised to immediately switch off the heat source, cover the
container with a fire blanket or fire-resistant lid to cut off oxygen, and
slide the cover gently from one side. The ministry strongly warned against
using water, as it can intensify and spread the flames.
Residents were also reminded not to leave cooking oil unattended, to stay alert when oil begins to smoke, and to keep flammable items away from heat sources. Maintaining a clean kitchen free of grease buildup was emphasised as an important preventive step.
