Doha: Qatar has stepped up efforts to tackle food
waste through a coordinated nationwide campaign aimed at promoting responsible
consumption and sustainability.
Authorities said the initiative focuses on raising
awareness among households, retailers and hospitality establishments,
particularly during Ramadan when food preparation and consumption typically
increase. Officials noted that reducing waste is both an environmental priority
and a social responsibility.
Government bodies are working alongside private
sector partners and community organisations to encourage better meal planning,
careful purchasing and the safe redistribution of surplus food to charitable
groups.
The campaign also highlights the importance of
proper storage and handling practices to minimise spoilage. Educational
outreach programmes are being rolled out to guide residents on practical steps
to reduce unnecessary waste at home.
Officials stressed that community participation is
essential to the success of the drive, urging residents to adopt mindful habits
that conserve resources and support those in need.
The strengthened initiative forms part of broader
national sustainability goals aimed at protecting resources and enhancing food
security.
