Doha: Qatar's Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has urged the public to follow safe food preparation, storage and ordering practices during the summer months to reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses as temperatures continue to exceed 40°C across the country.
The
ministry advised residents to wash their hands before handling food, keep raw
and cooked foods separate, thaw frozen food in the refrigerator, and avoid
preparing food when experiencing symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhoea. It
also recommended storing refrigerated food at 4°C or below and keeping hot food at 65°C or above, while warning against leaving food unrefrigerated
for more than two hours or refreezing thawed food.
MoPH
further encouraged consumers to order food only from licensed restaurants and
ensure that delivered food is properly sealed, with hot food arriving hot and
cold food remaining cold. Leftovers should be refrigerated promptly and
reheated thoroughly before consumption to ensure food safety.
