Doha: Qatar's Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has released a list of 140 controlled medicines that travellers can carry into or out of the country under its newly introduced electronic permit system. The list includes 61 narcotic medicines and 79 psychotropic medicines, each subject to specific conditions.

The electronic system allows passengers arriving in or departing from Qatar to apply online for prior approval to carry controlled medicines for personal use, track the status of their application, and receive the permit electronically. The initiative aims to simplify procedures while ensuring compliance with national pharmaceutical regulations.

Travellers are required to submit a valid prescription and medical report in English or Arabic, along with a copy of their passport or Qatar ID. The documents must be issued within the previous six months by a recognised healthcare provider and include details of the patient's diagnosis, medication, dosage, and treatment duration.

Under the new guidelines, narcotic medicines are permitted for up to 10 days of prescribed treatment, while psychotropic medicines may be carried for up to 60 days. Travellers who require additional medication after arriving in Qatar must consult a licensed physician and obtain treatment through authorised healthcare facilities.
