Doha,
Qatar: The Ministry of Public Health, in partnership with the Ministry of
Endowments and Islamic Affairs, has launched a booklet titled "Pilgrimage:
A Psychological and Behavioural School" as part of preparations for the
Hajj season.
The
awareness booklet aims to promote mental and behavioural health among pilgrims,
raising awareness of the importance of mental health while performing the
rituals and cultivating values of patience, humility, and self-restraint. It
addresses the importance of prior psychological preparation before undertaking
Hajj, offering practical guidelines to help reduce stress including planning in
advance, organising basic needs, and preparing a list of essential supplies.
The
booklet advises pilgrims to remain calm during emergencies, manage time
appropriately, and stay in suitable locations during overcrowding or high
temperatures. It also emphasises fostering positive behaviour such as offering
assistance to others, particularly senior citizens, which has a significant
impact on boosting feelings of gratification and happiness.
The publication highlights how Hajj enhances mental health by fostering peace of mind, tranquility, and psychological comfort while alleviating anxiety and stress, and developing patience and the ability to adapt to challenges.
