Municipality Ministry confirms readiness for Eid Al Adha with sufficient sacrificial animal stock

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality has confirmed that Qatar has sufficient stock of local sheep and imported livestock to meet market demand during the upcoming Eid al-Adha season. Represented by the Animal Resources Department, the ministry said supply volumes are being continuously monitored and updated according to market demand, with details announced through official channels when required.

The ministry said it had implemented an early and comprehensive operational plan to ensure the availability of sacrificial animals, maintain smooth supply flow, and balance supply and demand. The plan includes close coordination with local breeders, approved import companies, veterinary quarantine facilities, and regulated livestock markets to strengthen market readiness ahead of the festive season.

Officials also highlighted ongoing support for local production through cooperation with Widam Food Company and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Under the initiative, breeders’ sheep are being purchased at competitive prices while participants are provided with free concentrated feed. The ministry added that Widam’s sheep supply programme will begin on May 7, alongside continued technical and in-kind support for livestock breeding and fattening projects.

The ministry further stressed that both imported and locally sourced sacrificial animals undergo strict veterinary and preventive health checks, including laboratory testing and market inspections. Consumers were advised to purchase animals only from approved markets and avoid slaughtering outside licensed abattoirs to ensure public health and safety.
