New Delhi: Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, has expressed
his disagreement with the recent suggestion by Infosys founder Narayana Murthy
for a 70-hour work week. Speaking at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue
2025 in New Delhi, Mahindra emphasized the importance of the quality of work
over the quantity of hours. He argued that productivity and meaningful output
should take precedence over extended work hours, aligning with the growing
global discourse on work-life balance.
Highlighting his personal approach to life,
Mahindra shared that he values spending quality time with his family and uses
social media primarily as a business tool. "My wife is wonderful, I love
staring at her. I spend more time with my family," he said, reinforcing
the need for holistic engagement in life.
Mahindra also advocated for a broader perspective in decision-making, urging leaders to embrace liberal arts and cultural studies alongside their professional expertise. He argued that exposure to diverse fields enriches decision-making, fostering a well-rounded approach. His remarks come as many countries explore innovative work models, including four-day work weeks, to enhance productivity and well-being.
