Pakistan to host US-Iran peace talks on Friday after ceasefire agreement

Islamabad: High-level delegations from Washington and Tehran will meet in Islamabad on Friday to negotiate a permanent peace agreement, following a breakthrough ceasefire announcement.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed on X that the United States, Iran, and their allies have agreed to an immediate halt to hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon. The ceasefire took effect immediately.

The development comes after Sharif urged US President Donald Trump to grant a two-week extension for Iran to reach a deal. He also called on Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as a goodwill gesture during this period. Trump agreed to suspend military operations against Iran for two weeks late Tuesday.

Sharif expressed optimism that the upcoming "Islamabad Talks" would lead to lasting peace, stating that more good news is expected in the coming days.
