Doha: Qatar has introduced amendments to its tenancy law through Law No. (8) of 2026, bringing in a mandatory QR250 lease registration fee for each residential, commercial or other unit covered under a property’s building permit. The amendments were published in the Official Gazette by the Ministry of Justice and revise several provisions of the 2008 real estate leasing law.

The new law also expands lease registration requirements, making it mandatory for beneficiaries of public and private State property who lease to third parties to register such agreements within two months, provided their contracts allow subleasing. These agreements will be exempt from the QR250 registration fee.

The amendments further strengthen the role of the Rental Disputes Committee by granting it exclusive jurisdiction over lease-related disputes before court action can be taken. The law also allows appeals to the Court of Appeal within 15 days and introduces fines of up to QR10,000 for violations of specified provisions, with an option for settlement before a final court judgment.
