Qatari referee Khamis Al Marri has been appointed as a support video assistant referee (support VAR) for the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain this Sunday at New York New Jersey Stadium. Al Marri will collaborate with Germany's Bastian Dankert, the designated video assistant referee, and Colombian Nicolás Gallo, the assistant VAR, marking Qatar's presence in one of football's premier events.

On the field, Slovenian Slavko Vincic will make history as the first official from Slovenia to referee the World Cup final. The 46-year-old, who has previously overseen the UEFA Champions League final and the UEFA EURO 2024 semi-final between France and Spain, expressed that the appointment is an "incredible honour" and the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
