António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General, on Saturday called for an immediate end to the fighting across the Middle East and emphasized the need to fully restore international navigational rights and freedoms in and around the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Guterres highlighted the urgent need for peace, warning that the military escalation, which began six months ago, has swiftly transformed from a regional conflict into a significant source of global instability.
He also noted that the ongoing conflict has disrupted trade through the Strait of Hormuz, driven up the prices of food and essential fertilizers, and adversely affected global energy markets and supply chains.
