The United States is set to withdraw all its troops from Iraq by September 30, marking the end of a 23-year military presence that began with the 2003 invasion aimed at toppling Saddam Hussein.

The deadline was officially confirmed on Wednesday by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's office after a meeting with US Central Command commander Admiral Brad Cooper.

The Prime Minister's office emphasized that the September 30 deadline for concluding the US-led coalition's military mission against Islamic State (ISIL) and completing the withdrawal of forces is "fixed and final."
