Qatar welcomes students back to school as new academic year 2025-26 begins

Doha: Students across Qatar returned to campuses today, Sunday, August 31, marking the start of the 2025-2026 academic year. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) confirmed extensive preparations, including resources, logistics, and staffing, to ensure a smooth launch aimed at enhancing learning outcomes and supporting the country’s knowledge economy.

To expand capacity, MoEHE has opened 10 new public and private schools, providing around 6,000 additional seats and hiring 1,124 teachers. A total of 276 schools underwent comprehensive maintenance, while 2,510 buses have been readied to transport students, with plans to expand the fleet to 2,750. School administrations were directed to finalize schedules, distribute textbooks, and orient new staff.

Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs, Maha Zayed Al Qaqqa Al Ruwaili, stressed the ministry’s commitment to a safe, healthy, and stimulating school environment. This year’s priorities include enhancing curricula on national identity, Islamic education, Arabic, science, and STEM integration, alongside partnerships to introduce financial literacy and cybersecurity education.

MoEHE also outlined plans to strengthen inclusive education, expand early learning centers, foster student participation in global competitions, and promote vocational and digital education. The new academic year is part of the ministry’s 2024-2030 strategy to build an integrated education system that aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, aiming to prepare pioneering learners for sustainable development.
