Passengers traveling abroad from India will now need an e-boarding pass on their smartphones for immigration clearance starting September 1, according to officials. The Bureau of Immigration (BOI), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has decided to phase out the physical stamping of boarding passes, citing inconvenience for passengers.
Officials revealed that the decision was made after finding that improper or incorrect stamping often led to errors in reading boarding passes. The move aims to streamline the immigration process at all international airports across the country.
While physical boarding passes will still be accepted, they will no longer be stamped by immigration authorities from the beginning of September.
