Indian Cultural Centre establishes library to promote reading and learning in the community

Doha: The Indian Cultural Centre has established a library at its premises to promote reading, learning, and lifelong knowledge sharing within the Indian community. The library was formally inaugurated on Monday, June 8, 2026, by H.E. Mr. Vipul, Ambassador of India to Qatar.


Ms. Tan Huism, Executive Director of Qatar National Library, and Dr. Vaibhav A. Tandale, Counsellor (Head of Chancery & Consular) at the Embassy of India, attended as Guests of Honour. ICC President Mr. A.P. Manikantan delivered the presidential address, while ICC General Secretary Mr. Abraham K. Joseph welcomed the guests. H.E. Mr. Vipul lauded the initiative and emphasised the importance of reading and lifelong learning, while Ms. Tan Huism highlighted the role of libraries in promoting learning and community engagement.


The library houses more than 6,000 books in various Indian languages, making it one of the largest community-driven Indian language library collections in Qatar. A unique feature of the library is that its collection has been built through the generous contributions of community organisations and individual donors residing in Qatar. On the occasion, ICC felicitated M/s. Home r Us, M/s. Aero Group of Companies, and M/s. Al Tech Aluminium & Steel WLL for their support and contribution.


The event was attended by ISC President Mr. E.P. Abdurahman, ICBF President Mr. Shanavas Bava, presidents of associated organisations, and senior community members. ICC Vice President Mr. Shantanu Deshpande delivered the vote of thanks, and the event was hosted by RJ Sudev.
