Islamabad: US Vice President JD
Vance has arrived in Islamabad to lead talks aimed at a permanent peace deal
with Iran following a two-week ceasefire. The negotiations come after President
Trump extended a deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical
global energy route currently under Iranian control.
While Tehran has demanded the release of frozen assets as a precondition, Vance emphasized that the US is prepared for "good faith" negotiations but will remain firm if the talks are compromised. Former negotiators warn that Iran holds significant leverage due to its ability to disrupt global supply chains and maritime security. A major unresolved issue remains Lebanon's status within the ceasefire.
