Minister of Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju expresses deep condolences on the passing of Qatar's Father Amir

Honourable Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Mr. Kiren Rijiju extended condolences on behalf of the Government and people of India, including Prime Minister Modi, to His Highness Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, following the demise of His Highness Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, on July 14, 2026. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his sorrow over the loss on July 12, recalling Father Amir as a visionary leader who significantly contributed to Qatar's prosperity and the strengthening of India-Qatar relations. In honor of Father Amir's legacy, India observed a national mourning day on July 13, 2026, with flags flown at half-mast.

The Indian community in Qatar united in grief, organised a condolence meeting on July 15, reflecting on Father Amir's enduring support and friendship. His leadership and kindness towards the Indian expatriate community will be fondly remembered.
