PM Modi's Indonesia visit set to boost defence, trade and strategic ties

Narendra Modi is on his first bilateral visit to Indonesia since the two nations elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. Talks with President Prabowo Subianto are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in defence, trade, maritime security and critical minerals.

Major announcements are likely to include Indonesia's procurement of Astra air-to-air missile, expansion of its BrahMos missile inventory, and India's support for developing Indonesia-specific electronic voting machines.

The two countries are also expected to deepen collaboration in steel, nickel and rare earth manufacturing, while advancing the joint development of the strategically significant Sabang Port near the Strait of Malacca.

The visit is seen as a major step in advancing India's Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision, and broader Indo-Pacific strategy, while reinforcing strategic and economic ties with one of Southeast Asia's key partners.
