The death toll from the devastating flash floods in Nepal climbed to 177 on Thursday, as authorities rush to locate hundreds of missing individuals, including approximately 300 Indian tourists. The disaster, one of Nepal's worst in recent years, struck three districts on Wednesday, causing widespread destruction.
"Thousands of families have lost homes and are missing as of now. We are still trying to ascertain the full extent of the disaster," Nepal's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal, told NDTV. Many foreign nationals, including Indians on the route to the Masarovar Yatra, are among the missing.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), 826 people remain unaccounted for since the flood swept the Nepal-Tibet border. Nepal Police reported that the death toll increased to 177 after recovering 12 more bodies from the Bhotekoshi River area. Authorities continue their efforts to establish contact with those missing.
