The United States has issued a stern warning to Iran, threatening what it describes as "the greatest financial offensive ever marshalled" as it prepares to implement a new round of economic sanctions targeting Iran's trade partners on Monday. In response, Iran has vowed to halt all oil exports from the Gulf "if the economic war continues."

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to hold a press conference Monday, where he promises to unveil even more severe measures against Iran. In an opinion piece in the Financial Times on Sunday, Bessent declared, "At dawn begins an economic D-Day, the single greatest financial offensive ever marshalled against an adversary."

Although the US and Iran have not engaged in military strikes against each other for weeks, meaningful diplomatic talks have yet to occur to resolve the six-month-old conflict. Since the US and Israel launched strikes on February 28, thousands have died, primarily in Iran and Lebanon.
