United States envoy Jared Kushner has emphasized that President Donald Trump's administration will not permit reconstruction in the devastated Gaza Strip until Hamas relinquishes its weapons. Kushner, who is also Trump's son-in-law, engaged in discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. However, the meeting failed to achieve a breakthrough for implementing a roadmap for Gaza that Hamas had previously agreed to.
In an interview with Fox News, Kushner stated, "We have a plan to rebuild Gaza, but we will not allow Gaza to be rebuilt until the demilitarization occurs. Nobody wants to put more money into a place that's gone on for so long if it's just going to be taken over by terrorists or blown up again."
Hamas had agreed to disarm as part of a US-backed process that would involve Israeli withdrawal and an end to the deadly attacks on the Palestinian territory. Nonetheless, Israel rejected the proposal earlier this month, insisting that no concessions would be made until Gaza is fully demilitarized.
