US envoy Jared Kushner is scheduled to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday after engaging in discussions with Hamas leaders in Egypt. The talks, held in the Egyptian Mediterranean city of El-Alamein, focused on reviving a US-backed Gaza peace plan, which Israel has thus far rejected.

The meeting between Kushner and Netanyahu comes two weeks after Hamas endorsed the latest stage of former President Trump's Gaza plan. However, Netanyahu has refused to support the initiative, insisting that any settlement must ensure Hamas is "genuinely disarmed."

Kushner, who is also Trump's son-in-law, met with Hamas's new leader Khalil Al-Hayya on Sunday. According to sources familiar with the discussions, Kushner urged Hamas to take "concrete, verifiable steps" and conveyed a message that "Gaza can never again be a source of terror for Israel."

Hamas reaffirmed its commitment to the plan, with the group calling on mediators and Trump's Board of Peace to "compel" Israel to "approve the roadmap... and begin establishing a timetable for its implementation." A photo released by host Egypt did not include Al-Hayya but showed Kushner alongside members of the Board of Peace, including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Qatar and Turkiye, key mediators alongside Egypt, were also involved.

The United States, which has long refused contact with Hamas due to its classification as a terrorist organization, has increasingly engaged in direct communication under the Trump administration. This approach aims to end the prolonged conflict and facilitated the negotiation of the October ceasefire agreement that led to the release of remaining Israeli hostages.
