US President Donald Trump has escalated tensions with Iran by declaring an economic operation he describes as the "most crushing" ever implemented against any nation. Dubbed an "Economic D-Day," this initiative aims to impose "economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale."
Trump emphasized that countries supporting Iran would face significant economic repercussions, stating, "Any country which allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face tremendous economic consequences."
He urged allies to join forces with the US to "isolate, and defeat, the Iran threat," claiming these "historic measures will cripple [Iran] and their ability to project terror worldwide." The President remarked that this move follows Iran's failure to seize an opportunity to strike a deal with the US.
In his remarks, Trump reiterated previous assertions that Iran is "hanging by a thread," with its navy, air force, and military factories destroyed, and described its currency as "worthless."
As the international community watches closely, questions about the status of the so-called "peace deal" and ongoing negotiations loom, with various parties to the conflict providing partial answers.
