Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defended Israel’s decision to facilitate Qatari financial aid to Gaza while boasting that Israel also attacked Qatar during the war.
In an
interview with i24NEWS, Netanyahu said Qatar was a “hostile” state and claimed
the funds transferred to Gaza were intended for humanitarian purposes and
approved on the recommendation of Israeli security agencies.
Netanyahu’s
remarks come ahead of the first anniversary of Israel’s September 9, 2025,
strike on Doha, which killed five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer.
Qatar condemned the attack as a violation of its sovereignty, while UN
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described it as a flagrant violation of
international law.
Netanyahu
also rejected allegations that Qatari funds helped Hamas prepare for the
October 7, 2023, attack. Qatar has repeatedly denied funding Hamas and said its
aid to Gaza was delivered through a transparent process under international
oversight.
