Doha, Qatar: Roblox, a popular online gaming and
creation platform, has become inaccessible in Qatar, with users reporting the
issue on social media. The disruption follows recent online calls to ban the
application over child safety concerns. While the game remains available for
download on Android and Apple stores, users are unable to proceed past the home
page, receiving a “No Network. Please try when connected to internet” message.
The web version similarly displays “This site can’t be reached.” According to
Ooni, a non-profit platform monitoring internet censorship, Roblox showed signs
of access anomalies in Qatar on August 13, 2025, at 7:32am. No official
government confirmation regarding the inaccessibility has been issued so far.
Concerns
over Roblox’s safety have been raised for years by community members, citing
hidden dangers and inappropriate content for children, who make up the majority
of its player base. Online discussions in recent days praised the potential
ban, saying the platform contradicts moral values, customs, and traditions, while
also posing safety risks for young users. Supporters of a ban argued it could
ease parents’ responsibility in monitoring their children’s online activities.
However, many Roblox fans expressed disappointment over the sudden inaccessibility, suggesting alternative measures such as raising the minimum age requirement and strengthening parental controls instead of blocking the platform entirely. Developed by Roblox Corporation, the game has been downloaded over 1.5 billion times across all platforms and was the most-downloaded gaming app on the Google Play Store worldwide in June 2025, according to Statista.
