Doha, Qatar: Qatar Airways has issued a travel
advisory prohibiting passengers from carrying or checking in with specific
Anker power bank models, following a recent recall over potential fire and burn
hazards linked to defective lithium-ion batteries. The airline urged passengers
to check their devices before travel, stating that recalled models are strictly
banned onboard. The affected models include Anker Power Banks (Models: A1647,
A1652, A1681, A1689, A1257) and Anker PowerCore 10000, both recalled in June
2025, as well as Anker Power Banks (Models: A1642, A1647, A1652) recalled in
October 2024.
In
its statement, Qatar Airways emphasized the importance of passenger safety,
asking travelers to verify any Anker power banks they carry. If a device is
part of the recall list, it cannot be brought onto the aircraft, whether in
carry-on luggage or checked baggage. The advisory follows increased safety
scrutiny after incidents worldwide involving faulty lithium-ion batteries,
which can overheat and cause fires during flights.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) announced the recall last month, citing the risk of internal short circuits in the affected power banks. The Ministry confirmed it is working with the local dealer to provide customers with a free replacement, a gift voucher, or a refund for the purchase price of the impacted products. Passengers are encouraged to check the model numbers on their devices and act promptly to ensure compliance with the advisory.
