Qatar
Airways has announced a major milestone in its inflight connectivity rollout,
confirming that 150 of its widebody aircraft are now equipped with Starlink
internet service, including a Boeing 787-9. The airline noted it is the first
in the world to operate a Starlink-equipped 787-9, following the completion of
Starlink installation across its entire 787-8 sub-fleet in just seven months.
This
latest development follows similarly rapid progress on other aircraft types:
the carrier finished outfitting its Boeing 777 fleet in nine months and its
Airbus A350 fleet in eight months. As a result, Qatar Airways now claims the
world's largest Starlink-equipped fleets across the 777, A350, and 787 aircraft
families.
With
as many as 323 Starlink-enabled flights operating each day, high-speed connectivity
has become a routine feature of the airline's passenger experience. The service
offers Wi-Fi speeds of up to 500 Mbps, giving travelers the ability to work,
stream, or stay in touch with family while cruising at 35,000 feet.
Since the service debuted in October 2024, Qatar Airways says more than 23 million passengers have connected to Starlink Wi-Fi across upwards of 86,000 flights. With installation across its widebody fleet now more than 83 percent complete, the airline continues to position itself as a leader in onboard connectivity within the aviation industry.
