Doha: The National Planning Council has highlighted a comprehensive framework to transform the nation's energy generation and mobility systems as part of the Third National Development Strategy, leading toward Qatar National Vision 2030.

The country is reinventing production and distribution by deploying advanced carbon capture and storage technologies, expanding renewable energy infrastructure, and increasing reliance on low-carbon fuels, while accelerating the electrification of its transport network to drive cleaner urban transit. Combined initiatives include a 70 percent reduction in groundwater extraction through sustainable reverse osmosis desalination, circular economy strategies to curb industrial pollution, and the designation of 30 percent of land and marine areas as protected reserves.

Qatar is also embedding circular economy principles across commercial and industrial activities by encouraging systemic waste reduction, expanding industrial recycling capabilities, and promoting sustainable consumption habits. Officials note the strategy directly addresses Qatar's arid climate and acute resource scarcity through aggressive water conservation mandates, shifting reliance toward low-energy, sustainable desalination techniques.
