Doha: Qatar Tourism’s Service
Excellence Academy recognised the achievements of 147 participants at the
“Legacy of Guides: Generation to Generation” ceremony held on September 5 at
Oasis Stage, Mall of Qatar.
The
ceremony honoured participants from four programmes, including the Junior Tour
Guide Summer Camp with 110 children, the Train-the-Trainer Programme with eight
licensed Qatari tour guides, the Youth Tour Guide Training Programme with 19
participants, and the Tour Guide Licensing Programme, which certified 11
guides.
Qatar
Tourism Director of Operations Affairs Omar Abdulrahman Al Jaber highlighted
the important role of tour guides in showcasing Qatar’s culture, heritage and
stories, stressing the importance of developing local talent and preparing
young people for careers in tourism.
The Tour Guide
Training Programme, launched in 2016 in partnership with Qatar Youth Hostels,
has now reached its fourth edition, while the Junior Tour Guide Summer Camp completed
its second edition. The newly introduced Youth Tour Guide Training Programme
further expands opportunities for young people to enter Qatar’s tourism sector
and supports the development of a skilled local talent pipeline.
