New
Delhi: A ground collision occurred at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International
Airport on Thursday, April 16, 2026, when a SpiceJet aircraft struck a parked
Akasa Air jet while taxiing. The incident resulted in visible damage to the
wing of the SpiceJet plane, though no injuries were reported among the
passengers or crew on either aircraft.
Preliminary
reports indicate that the SpiceJet flight was maneuvering toward the runway for
departure when its wingtip came into contact with the tail or wing of the
stationary Akasa Air aircraft. Both planes were immediately grounded for
technical inspection, and passengers were deboarded to be accommodated on
alternative flights.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation into the mishap to determine whether the collision was due to a pilot error, a miscommunication with air traffic control, or a failure in ground marking guidance. This incident follows a series of recent operational challenges for the airline and highlights ongoing concerns regarding ground safety protocols at high-traffic airports.
