U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday announced a wide-ranging 20-point Gaza peace plan, receiving backing from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The proposal, also shared with Arab leaders, calls for a ceasefire, the release of hostages within 48 hours, Hamas’ disarmament, and a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Key
provisions include deploying a temporary international stabilisation force and
establishing a transitional authority led by Trump alongside selected foreign
leaders. Hamas fighters would be barred from future governance roles unless
they accepted peaceful co-existence, in which case amnesty would be granted.
Following Israel’s withdrawal, Gaza’s borders would reopen to aid and
investment.
Trump
stressed that, unlike earlier plans, Palestinians would not be forced to leave
Gaza, instead being encouraged to stay and rebuild. Netanyahu welcomed the
initiative, saying it “achieves our war aims,” while Trump expressed hope Hamas
would also endorse the deal, noting approval was “beyond very close.”
The announcement comes amid continued Israeli strikes in Gaza, which killed at least four people in Khan Younis on Monday, according to local authorities. The conflict has claimed more than 66,000 Palestinian lives, mostly civilians, as families of Israeli hostages urged Trump to push forward with the peace plan.
