Doha: The Centre for Study and Research Development (CSRD), the research wing of Women India Qatar, organized an online forum on "Women’s Property Rights," bringing together speakers and participants to discuss various legal, social, and Islamic perspectives related to women’s rights over property and inheritance.
The
programme commenced with a prayer by Tahira Sulaiman. Delivering the
introductory address, Women India Qatar President M. Naseema emphasized that
Islam promotes gender justice and practical equality based on mutual support
and complementarity between men and women. She noted that Islamic teachings
ensure women’s rights and dignity through a balanced social framework.
Presenting
a session on "Marriage and Mahr," Jaisiya Suneer highlighted that the
relationship between husband and wife is founded on love, mercy, and mutual
respect, describing these values as divine signs that contribute to family and
social stability. Speaking on "Divorce and Maintenance," Ilaihi
Sebeela explained that while divorce is permissible in unavoidable
circumstances, it should be avoided whenever possible. Referring to Qur’anic
teachings, she stated that Mata’a
is a legitimate right of women following divorce and should not be regarded as
charity or a voluntary gesture.
Addressing the topic of "Inheritance Rights," Sakkiya Muhiyudheen explained that Islamic inheritance laws are divinely ordained, precise, and rooted in justice. She stressed that the system is based on responsibility and fairness rather than gender discrimination. During the interactive question-and-answer session, Fathima S responded to queries from participants, while attendees described the programme as highly informative and effective in raising awareness about women’s rights. The session was moderated by Sulaikha Mecheri, CSRD Coordinator and Vice President of Women India Qatar.
