Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has called upon all Muslims in Qatar to observe the fast on the Day of Ashura, which falls in the sacred month of Al Muharram. In a statement released on July 2, 2025, the Ministry emphasized the religious significance of fasting on this day and encouraged believers to follow this virtuous practice.
The Ministry clarified that Islamic scholars
recognize three permissible forms of fasting for Ashura. These include fasting
for three consecutive days — the 9th, 10th, and 11th of Muharram; fasting on
the 9th and 10th; or fasting on the 10th of Muharram alone. All three options
are considered acceptable and are left to the choice and ability of each
individual.
Highlighting the spiritual benefit, the statement
noted that fasting on Ashura is highly recommended as it is believed to expiate
the sins of the previous year. The Ministry urged the faithful to seize this
opportunity for reflection, devotion, and seeking forgiveness, reinforcing the
values of piety and self-discipline in line with Islamic teachings.
