Doha, Qatar: Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Heart Hospital (HH) has made global healthcare history by becoming the world’s first specialist cardiology hospital to receive Planetree Certification for Excellence in Person-Centered Care at the silver level. The prestigious certification recognizes HH’s outstanding commitment to innovation and excellence in delivering compassionate, patient-focused care. With this achievement, HH joins an elite group of just 40 healthcare organizations worldwide to earn Planetree silver certification.
HH
is the only tertiary cardiac center in the State of Qatar providing
comprehensive cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery services. The hospital
offers a wide range of advanced treatments, including interventional and
non-invasive cardiology, heart failure management, cardiac intensive and
emergency care, ambulatory services, and cardiac rehabilitation. In a landmark
medical milestone, the cardiothoracic surgery department successfully performed
Qatar’s first-ever heart transplant in 2025, further strengthening the
hospital’s reputation for clinical excellence.
The Planetree silver certification reinforces HMC’s mission to place patients, families, and staff at the heart of healthcare delivery. The evaluation focused on key elements of a person-centered care experience, including patient-provider communication, access to information, family involvement, supportive care environments, and staff engagement. The certification process included an on-site assessment by Planetree representatives, who engaged directly with patients, families, and staff to validate policies and outcomes. Planetree, a global not-for-profit organization, sets international benchmarks for person-centered healthcare, supporting improved clinical outcomes, enhanced patient experiences, and stronger staff retention across the continuum of care.
