ICBF, TGS Qatar organise heat stress awareness programme for workers

Doha: The Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), under the aegis of the Embassy of India in Qatar, organised a Heat Stress Awareness Programme in collaboration with Telangana Gulf Samiti (TGS) Qatar at the ICBF Kanjani Hall on July 24. The programme witnessed the participation of a large number of workers from various labour camps across Doha, reaffirming ICBF's commitment to the health, safety and well-being of the Indian community during the peak summer season.

Shri Chandan Kumar Srivastava, Attaché at the Embassy of India, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, he appreciated the dedicated community service carried out by the ICBF leadership and assured the Embassy's continued support for initiatives aimed at the welfare of the Indian diaspora. He stressed that awareness about heat stress is essential and urged workers to stay hydrated, follow workplace safety measures, and take proper care of their health during extreme temperatures. He also reminded them that their families and loved ones are waiting for their safe return.

ICBF President Shri Shanavas Bawa, in his presidential address, thanked the Embassy of India for its continuous support, including consular services and welfare assistance for the Indian community. He also expressed gratitude to Telangana Gulf Samiti (TGS) Qatar for partnering with ICBF in organising the awareness programme.

The technical awareness session was conducted by Mr. Bimal Subedi, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Coordinator of Building and Wood Workers International (BWI). He explained that heat stress occurs when the body is unable to cool itself naturally due to high temperatures or strenuous physical exertion. He highlighted preventive measures such as drinking sufficient water, taking regular breaks in shaded areas, wearing light-coloured clothing, and recognising early symptoms including dizziness, excessive sweating, fatigue and dehydration, stressing that timely precautions can prevent serious heat-related illnesses.

TGS President Shri Madhukar Maidam thanked ICBF for the opportunity to co-organise the programme. Greetings were extended by ICBF Advisory Council Chairman Shri K. S. Prasad and Head of Labour Section Shri Shankar Goud. General Secretary Shri Deepak Shetty delivered the welcome address, while Secretary Shri Jaffer Thayil proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was coordinated by Managing Committee members Shri Irfan Ansari, Shri Mani Bharti, Smt. Mini Sibi, Shri Amarveer Singh and Smt. Neelambari S.

ICBF officials said they will continue organising awareness programmes on heat stress and occupational safety to help expatriate workers remain healthy, safe and well-informed throughout the summer months.
