Doha: The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) in Qatar will organise two major programmes this week, celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage and the enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.
The
ICC will host its 100th Wednesday Fiesta on Wednesday, September 30, from 7pm
onwards at ICC Ashoka Hall. The special milestone edition will feature a Ghazal
performance by renowned Ghazal and Hindustani singer Padmakumar, along with
cultural performances by various ICC Associated Organisations showcasing the
diversity of Indian art and traditions.
The
ICC, in coordination with the Embassy of India, Qatar, will also organise
Gandhi Jayanti celebrations on Friday, October 2, from 7pm onwards at ICC
Ashoka Hall, commemorating the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The
programme will feature cultural presentations highlighting Gandhi’s values,
ideals and enduring legacy.
As
part of the celebrations, ICC will organise a school-wise Quiz Competition for
students of Grades 8 to 12 on October 2 from 5pm onwards. Each participating
school can register three teams, with two students in each team. Registration
for the quiz will be carried out through the respective schools.
ICC
will also conduct Sketch & Painting competitions for school students on
October 2 from 9am to 10:30am. The Sketch & Painting Competition is open to
students of Grades 8 to 12, while the Painting Competition is for students of
Grades 5 to 7. Students can register through the ICC Mobile App, with
registrations closing at 7pm on September 30.
The
details were announced at a press conference held at ICC Ashoka Hall, attended
by ICC President A. P. Manikantan, General Secretary Abraham Joseph, Advisory
Council Chairman P. N. Baburajan, Vice President Shantanu Deshpande, Cultural
Secretary Nandini Abbagouni, Head of Affiliation Ravindra Prasad, Head of HR
Ragesh Wagh and Head of External Activities Purvi Shroff. ICC invited the
Indian community and students across Qatar to participate in the special
programmes and celebrate India’s cultural heritage and the timeless ideals of
Mahatma Gandhi.
