Israel's military announced it had targeted a Hamas commander within the compound of a Gaza hospital on Saturday, while health officials in the territory reported that Israeli strikes in other areas resulted in three fatalities. This incident marks the latest violence in the war-torn region, occurring despite a US-backed ceasefire that commenced in October 2025, as Israel continues to target individuals it identifies as militants.
The military stated that the Hamas commander, who was "hiding within the compound" of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah, was targeted, although confirmation of his death is still pending. The commander, whose identity remains undisclosed, allegedly orchestrated "attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians" and was struck in a structure near the hospital buildings.
Additionally, the hospital reported that three individuals sustained injuries due to an Israeli strike near a warehouse adjacent to the maternity ward.
