Doha: Qatar Museums (QM) has
achieved significant global recognition in 2026, securing nine awards across
two prestigious digital programs: The Webby Awards and Awwwards. These
accolades highlight the organization’s successful integration of advanced
technologies, including generative AI and immersive 3D environments, to enhance
cultural accessibility and preserve national heritage.
At
The Webby Awards, often described as the “Internet’s highest honour,” Qatar
Museums was recognized in multiple categories. The QM AI Tour received an
Honoree Award for its first-of-its-kind platform that offers personalized
discovery of Qatar’s museums and public art. Additionally, the National Museum
of Qatar (NMoQ) Metaverse Pilot Project was honoured for its innovative use of
augmented and extended reality to create a live digital museum experience.
Further
success came from Awwwards, where a jury of over 300 experts evaluated more
than 15,000 global submissions. Qatar Museums received five Ribbons and an
Honorable Mention for several of its platforms, including the main QM website,
the Mathaf Encyclopedia, and the Design Doha website. The Mathaf Encyclopedia
was specifically noted for its bilingual, peer-reviewed content on contemporary
Arab artists.
Asma Al-Jefairi, Director of Digital Experience at Qatar Museums, stated that these awards reflect the institution's commitment to making culture more engaging for global audiences. By reimagining how the world interacts with history through digital tools, Qatar Museums continues to support the nation’s broader digital transformation goals.
