Hamas has announced its decision to release Israeli soldier Edan Alexander, who also holds United States citizenship. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to implement a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, facilitate the opening of border crossings, and allow for humanitarian aid to enter the region.
Khalil Al Hayya, the leader of Hamas in Gaza and head of its negotiating team, stated that this action aligns with the efforts of intermediary parties working toward a ceasefire. He noted that Hamas has been in communication with the U.S. administration in recent days and has demonstrated a constructive attitude during these discussions.
Hamas has expressed its willingness to commence intensive negotiations immediately and is committed to making substantial efforts to achieve a final agreement aimed at ending the conflict. Key objectives include facilitating a hostage and prisoner exchange, establishing an independent and professional authority to manage the Gaza Strip, and ensuring long-term calm and stability in the region, along with facilitating reconstruction and the lifting of the blockade.
