A Mexican Navy tall ship collided with the Brooklyn Bridge on May 17, leading to the tragic deaths of two sailors and injuring 19 others aboard. The ship’s masts suffered severe damage in the incident, according to authorities.
"We are praying for everyone on board and their families and are grateful to our first responders who quickly jumped into action, ensuring this accident wasn't much worse," New York Mayor Eric Adams stated on X.
Authorities reported that the Mexican Navy tall ship Cuauhtémoc, which is used for sail training and goodwill voyages to other countries, lost power shortly before the crash occurred around 8:20 p.m. ET. Out of the 277 individuals on board, two lost their lives, and 19 sustained injuries, with two of the injured in critical condition.
