Doha, Qatar: The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), under the aegis of the Embassy of India, celebrated Kerala Piravi 2025-the formation day of the state of Kerala-with great enthusiasm and cultural splendor on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the ICC Ashoka Hall.

Organized in association with the ICC
Malayalam Literature Club and ICC Malayalam AOs, the event highlighted the vibrant
traditions and spirit of Kerala through an evening filled with music, dance,
and community celebration.

The program commenced with a grand traditional Chenda Melam, setting a festive tone for the evening. A series of captivating cultural performances followed, featuring classical and folk art forms that reflected Kerala’s deep-rooted cultural identity.

One of the highlights of the evening was a mesmerizing Sopana Sangeetham presentation by renowned percussionist and Edakka maestro Dr. Thrissur Krishnakumar, which enthralled the audience with its soulful rendition.

Adding to the cultural flavor of the evening, a Kerala Food Festival was organized, offering a delectable spread of authentic dishes that showcased the diverse culinary heritage of “God’s Own Country.” Visitors enjoyed traditional favorites that brought a nostalgic taste of Kerala to Doha, making the celebration even more memorable.

As part of the Kerala Piravi celebrations, ICC also organized two engaging competitions - a Reels Making Contest and a Kerala Quiz Contest. The Reels contest encouraged participants to creatively express the essence of Kerala through short videos, while the Quiz contest tested participants’ knowledge of Kerala’s history, politics, literature, cinema, and culture, providing a perfect blend of entertainment and learning.

The formal ceremony began with a welcome address by ICC Secretary Mr. Pradeep Pillai, followed by opening remarks from ICC General Secretary Mr. Abraham K. Joseph.

The Chief Guest of the evening was Dr. Vaibhav A. Tandale, Counsellor (Head of Chancery and Consular) at the Embassy of India, while the Guest of Honour was noted Malayalam lyricist and poet Mr. Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma. ICC President Mr. A.P. Manikantan delivered the presidential address, and ICC Advisory Council Chairman Mr. Baiju Rajan extended his felicitations.

In recognition of their contributions to Malayalam education in Qatar, the Malayalam Heads of Departments (HoDs) from Indian schools were felicitated by Mr. Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma. Dr. Vaibhav A. Tandale also presented awards to the winners of the Reels and Quiz competitions, appreciating their creative and intellectual engagement in celebrating Kerala’s heritage.

The event
concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by ICC Secretary Mr. Afsal Abdul
Majeed, who expressed gratitude to the Embassy of India, guests, participants,
and community members for their enthusiastic support. Presidents of associated
organizations, dignitaries, and senior community members attended the celebration,
making it a fitting tribute to Kerala’s unity, culture, and enduring legacy.
