All forms of punishment against students prohibited, Education Ministry reaffirms

Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has stressed the need to adhere to the code of ethics for employees in public schools, emphasising the prohibition of any form of punishment towards students.

In a circular issued by the School and Student Affairs Department to principals of public schools, the ministry said officials must adhere to values and professional practices in handling students, maintaining their dignity and mental and physical health. The ministry underlined the prohibition of punishing students in all forms, including physical, verbal, and mental punishments, as well as other abuse practices that negatively impact students and their educational environment.

It stressed the importance of handling behavioural violations with appropriate educational methods, based on approved policies and regulations. The department called on employees to adhere to these instructions, noting that abusers will be held accountable. The department also praised efforts made to support the educational process and provide a safe and supportive educational environment for students.
